Why would Obama greet the returning American military coffins?
It is showing respect for the fallen soldiers. He chose to greet the coffins. GW Bush chose to show his respect by personally calling the families of fallen soldiers. One reason that presidents had not done this in the past is that cameras were not allowed to photograph coffins of soldiers in recent years. For right or wrong, most actions by sitting president are governed by media coverage and are scheduled for maximum effect. This isn’t a slam on Obama. It is simply part of being the president. EDIT: I think every President should have to greet every soldier arriving in a coffin. Perhaps they would understand the full impact of their choices.
