Why would losing softball make PLNU so far out of compliance that three men’s sports had to be cut and another women’s team added? Was the university already out of compliance?

Title IX requires the ratio of male to female athletes to closely reflect the ratio of male to female students in the general student body. As PLNU’s student body has shifted from including approximately equal percentages of male and female students to being 38 percent male and 62 percent female, the university has, in fact, been falling incrementally out of compliance with Title IX. Losing women’s softball would have pushed PLNU even further out of compliance.
