Why would I use SpatialCloud for my 2D/3D mapping applications instead of Google Maps, Google Earth, or Microsoft Virtual Earth?
Google Maps, Google Earth, or Microsoft Virtual Earth are excellent tools which there is a place for in the market. However, they are proprietary systems limiting developers in how they can utilize the interface, the service’s data, and incorporate outside data. They’re generally designed for consumer use and, as soon as you wish to use them for custom applications or professional use, costly licensing fees are requested. Finally, all of these solutions require installing an executable or a proprietary plug-in to make them work. SpatialCloud counters all of these issues by 1) making available a total open and customizable pTolemy3D, 2) lowering costs via affordable SpatialCloud services, and 3) providing the pTolemy3D viewer which can be viewed in any web browser with standard Java support.
