Why would I use Idealstor, when the cost of tape media is cheaper than disk?
• The cost of disk continues to decrease as larger capacities become available. While disk is still more expensive than tape, one needs to look at the life of the disk to truly compare costs. Most tape vendors recommend that tapes be replaced every 6-12 months due to reliability and data integrity. Disks on the other hand have a manufacturer’s warranty of 3-5 years and are rated for much longer use than that. Over the life of an Idealstor backup system the cost of media is far less than tape and this does not even touch on the cost of downtime associated with failed tape backup and restore.
