Why Would Consumption of Dietary Calcium Reduce Stroke Risk?
It’s unclear exactly why this association between dietary calcium for children and stroke risk was seen. The researchers looked at the incidence of heart disease during adulthood among the same children and found no association between dietary calcium and heart disease as an adult. The researchers emphasize that the association seen in this study could be due to factors other than consumption of dairy products. Dairy products could be a marker of an overall healthy diet which could also reduce mortality and stroke incidence during adulthood. It does illustrate that a healthy diet during childhood can have a positive impact on adult health.
