Why would an increase in ones metabolic rate result in greater heat generated?
“Metabolic rate” simply means the rate at which chemical reactions take place in your body. Chemical reactions are taking place constantly, throughout your body, e.g. breaking down carbohydrates in the digestive system, building a protein out of amino acids, etc. Each of these reactions generates heat as a byproduct. So, faster metabolic rate means more chemical reactions taking place in a given second, which in turn means more heat generated in a given second.
