Why would a School Social Worker contact a parent?
1. School Social Workers contact parents to discuss many types of concerns including: attendance problems; academic difficulties; emotional and behavior difficulties; and missing signatures on official documents. 2. To serve as a liaison between home and school – School Social Workers assess problems impacting a student’s achievement and family involvement at school. The goal is to help remove barriers to healthy progress and to help support academic success. 3. To complete student evaluations and observations – School Social Workers are part of the Children At Risk in Education (C.A.R.E.) Team at each school and may be asked to complete evaluations when students are experiencing academic/behavioral/emotional difficulties. 4. To complete a parent conference when there are barriers (transportation/employment commitments) to parents coming to the school for a conference. 5.
