Why would a god plant all the ancient fossils that completely contradict the creation myth in Genesis?
The Bible isn’t a science text. It’s partly history, partly law, partly poetry and partly philosophy. The people who wrote it wrote within the scope of their knowledge. We will seem as backward & superstitious to our descendants 3000 years from now. It’s a popular fallacy that there’s a contradiction between the Bible and modern science (especially evolution). There isn’t–they just have different specialties. Science deals with the HOW, and the Bible deals with the WHY. If you read Genesis, you’ll see that the account is very generalized, spare & symbolic. These folks were more interested in talking about the moral & human story. There are actually 2 creation accounts in Genesis, a more ‘evolutionary’ version, and the Adam & Eve version. It’s like the scribes who wrote the book were saying, “Whatever–pick one.” They wanted to get on to the interesting stuff–to Abraham and the history of the Israelites.
