The single largest reason a farmer raising livestock will be careful not to use genetically modified feed for his animals would have to be organic registration, and it is quite likely that he could get away with this even while maintaining that registration. He would not be obligated to identify the fact that his animals ate GM foods to a consumer. Now there could be a problem in selling animals, their milk, or their eggs, meat, if the animal is itself GM. It is likely that one must disclose the GM status of the animal, and that would be likely to prevent sales to many consumers until a long history of safety has been built up. No animal GM effort will be done to make an animal resistant to a herbicide, but we can imagine that some GM animal might be developed that eliminates horns on cattle, grows lots of wool on a pig, returns a pig to a lean razorback profile that can be grown on only pasture. We can imagine someone developing a beef animal that has a longer back with better steaks,
