Why would a Diesel Renault Clio be over heating?

It will overheat if tere is no water in the cooling system. If there is no water in the cooling system you’ll need to find out the reason why it has gone. If you have to keep adding coolant then it most likely has a leak or a blown head gasket. You really need to be more specific to get a specific answer. If the coolant is blowing out of the “bottle” where you put it in even from cold then it’s most likely head gasket. If it takes it’s time to get to the over heating point then it may be a stuck thermostat. Stuck in the closed position. It could also be a blocked radiator or a faulty fan switch/fan. I would suggest you found out what before you “cook” the engine as this will “warp” the head and make your repair bill even more expensive. I hope this helps.
