Why worry about teen pregnancy?
New Mexico has the 4th highest teen birth rate in the U.S. Almost 4 in 10 teen girls get pregnant at least once before age 20. Because teen parents are less likely to finish high school, and because children born to teen parents are more likely to: • Have health and developmental problems • Grow up in homes without fathers • Experience abuse and neglect • Fail in school • Live in poverty So, get a good education and finish growing up before you become a parent.
