Why won uhaul rent a trailer for my 2006 ford explorer?

They have some trailers that they don’t want you to pull, because your explorer is not really long enough and heavy enough to control a really big trailer that’s loaded incorrectly. It may be rated for the weight you plan to put on the trailer, but it protects them better to have their own rules.

Because U-haul is retarded. I once had a Nissan 1/4 ton that I hauled my project cars home with and regularly hooked a 20ft flat deck behind it with a 3000 pound car on it and never had any problems towing it and had great control of it even on ice. I once tried to rent a car dolly at U-haul and they said my truck was too small and it couldn’t safely tow even the empty dolly. They have a system that won’t allow them to rent any trailers that with load out weights it’s tow vehicle which is retarded and goes against all manufacturers tow ratings. My truck had a 6000 pound tow rating and I was only planning on towing half that amount! I just went to a different rental store where they rented me the dolly without question and my truck towed it just fine. U-haul also has a terrible safety record and has some of the most unsafe vehicles on the road. You need to find a different rental store is all. Good Luck!

They don’t have any small and light enough for the explorer to haul within manufacturers specifications…

It’s because their insurance company won’t let them because of the rollovers previously mentioned. Those rollovers were caused by Ford recommending a far too low tyre pressure for the Firestones fitted in an attempt to get the ride a bit softer. Firestone recommended much higher pressures. Btw, put about 40lbs in your Explorer tyres unless you have big baloony tyres in which case you should put in about 32 – 35 lbs. Check the max pressure on your sidewall. Most tyres can take 50lbs, except Goodyears. The Uhaul restriction doesn’t apply to the Lincoln and Mercury variants.
