Why wont my acer aspire 5100 find my cd drive?
It seems that this is a common problem with this model laptop. There is one of three things occurring: either a fault with the CD-drive itself, a problem with the connector on the motherboard, or a problem with the operating system. For troubleshooting purposes the usual answer is to reload the operating system but if your CD-drive is non-operational that causes a problem doing that. If there is power going to the drive (you can open and close the drive tray) then a quick fix to try is editing the registry to remove the references to the device. Sometimes third-party software installs device filters that hook the device driver at a very low level and occasionally cause the device to stop working all together if they become corrupted.
