Why with no doubt MUST socialism join communism in the s-crap heap of history?
An ideology is sort of a set of ideas that makes up a world view. Socialism, communism, Marxism, Freudianism, and possibly some religions are ideologies. They are typically spread through “teaching” or “conversion”, though sometimes people come up with new ones, or more often, new pieces to add to old ones. The nice thing about them is that they often make a kind of sense, at least superficially, and they can explain a lot of things. Marxism, for instance, purports to explain even why art works are the way they are. The bad thing about them is that they are not thoroughly based on any kind of evidence. They have doctrine instead. So when the theory hits a snag when people try to actualize it, the typical explanation is that they didn’t do it right, or the fault is in the world, not the theory.
