Why will the new bridge be seven lanes?
• The pre-design concept presented for public consultation in May/June 2005 called for a six lane bridge. • As part of its recent Asia-Pacific Gateway & Corridor Initiative, the Government of Canada committed $90 million for this Project, subject to adding an additional eastbound truck lane and improvements to the Kennedy Road/Lougheed Highway intersection to better serve the CP Intermodal Yard. • Gateway analysis indicated that an additional lane across the bridge would improve traffic efficiency and safety. The additional lane will terminate at Kennedy Road as a “right in” access to CP Intermodal yard. • The auxiliary lane will also help improve merge movements across the bridge. • East of the bridge, Lougheed Highway will remain six lanes.
