Why will participants receive less milk and cheese?
Response: The Institute of Medicine (IOM) indicates that WIC food packages not exceed the recommendation of the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The reduction in the amount of milk and cheese and the change in the type of milk (fat reduced) are consistent with the Dietary Guidelines and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to decrease saturated fat and cholesterol. Additionally, by lessening the amount of milk and cheese, WIC is able to offer participants new and fresh choices.
