Changing the resolution will make a difference in the total numbers of photos that can be recorded. But what you are talking is going form 1.7MB to 34 MB per photo… this is not your issue. 34 MB per file is in the 20 Megapixel range! I would check to ensure that you do not have a video saved on the memory stick. Video would eat up the disk space and be seen as a lower number of total pictures. Another possible source would be switching from JPEG to RAW files. (Which can be 10x or more than JPEG) I would down load everything you have on the disk and reformat in the camera not your computer. Then ensure you have the picture quality set to your desires…
