Why were Tycho Brahe’s star charts so important in deciding the correct model of the solar system?
Tycho Brahe was an astronomer in the late 1500s. This was during a time when people still thought the earth was the center of the universe and everything revolved around them. Tycho was given money by a king to go on his own little island and do observations using the best tools available. Tycho was able to record large amounts of data every night continuously for 20 years. And his data was very accurate. Never before had such a large amount of accurate raw data been collected like that. This data was then given to Kepler when Tycho died and Kepler spent years using that data to figure out how the planets orbited. It was from this data that Kepler decided planets had to orbit in ellipses and how he derived his 3 laws.
