Why were the Pedestrian Crossings (bump-outs) installed?

0

Many local residents had been complaining that crossing Main Street had become increasingly more difficult and that when a motorist had stopped to allow them to cross, other motorists would attempt to pass them on the right, placing the pedestrian in a dangerous situation. For the record, Main Street is a two lane road with a parking lane on either side. Passing on the right is technically illegal and dangerous. The Village then researched other methods and ways other communities have handled this situation and came up with the design for the pedestrian crossing. It is our hope that with proper signage and local education that our motorists will give the pedestrians a safer way to cross Main Street.
