Why were the Olympics held in Ancient Greece?
The ancient Greeks believed that strong bodies pleased the gods. Boys were taught sporting skills to help them become fit soldiers in their adult life. They honored the gods with sporting events and contests. The Olympics began as a festival to honor Zeus. This honored Zeus because they would sacrifice a person for him. The Olympics were every two years, which started in Greece. If there was a current war all would stop for the Olympics. Buildings Bouleuterion The Olympic Council would hold all of their meetings here, important or non-important. Gymnasium All of the running and throwing trainers would train here for the events. The only equipment used by the runners was a track. It was not as big as the one in the stadium but was pretty close.
