Why were the hockey players in Gordy Howes day not wearing helmets ?
1) players had way more respect for each other and would not target the head in a check 2) early helmets were uncomfortable and bulky and obstructed your view 3) before the curved sticks it was harder to raise the puck and harder to shot as hard as they do now and because the sticks had straight blades the players had way more accuracy with their shots and going back to point 1 they had more respect for each other and would not shoot at the goalies head
