Why were Sport and Performing Arts selected as the key specialisms for the Academy in Durham City?
These specialisms have been chosen as they have been shown in the current schools to support students in developing life and personal skills such as confidence, creatively and self-discipline. They will make a major contribution to the ‘can do’ approach across the proposed Academy. The sponsors want students to be inspired and excited by learning, to have high aspiration and take responsibility for their own futures. We will create centres of excellence for Sports and the Performing Arts. We know these specialisms, together with our academic curriculum, will offer the young people a range of skills and capabilities which will prepare them for a successful adult and working life. Additionally, with a focus on Sport and Performing Arts, we can become a centre for community learning and engagement and create an invaluable community resource.
