Why were men keen to join the army in August 1914 e.g. Over by Christmas, PALS battalions?
-they thought it was their duty to protect their way of life – there was a lot of anti-German propaganda, like they killed babies with bayonets – for adventure – most people never travelled far from home, it was an opportunity to see the world – men didn’t want to stay behind and be regarded as a coward
