Why Were Mary and Joseph Chosen to Be Jesus Parents?

Thus we were “taken captive” by sin. We needed a ransom to get out of this! (Romans 5:12; 7:14) Jesus Christ served as our Ransom. (Matthew 20:28) A ransom in the scriptures pretty much matches up with the concept of a ransom elsewhere. Something is offered to someone to buy something or someone back from captivity. In order to serve appropriately as a ransom, Jesus needed to “correspond” to Adam. (1 Timothy 5:5, 6) What does this mean? Jesus’ life must be equivalent to that of Adam. Thus, Jesus had to be perfect. He had to have been a Son of God, and not just a son of Man. (Hebrews 4:15; Matthew 27:54) At the same time, he had to be a man, in order to correspond to Adam.
