Why were irrigation systems important to early farmers?
.The ancient Egyptians used irrigation. If you look at the mace head carvings of the Scorpion King(around 3200BCE) he is seen holding a plow for irrigation to extend the fertile soil left behind from the rising of the Nile. This left more land for food production and allowed the development for artisans and general population growth and central government. This probably was the same in Mesopotamia whose civilization developed between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers and they must have had irrigation to develop as a civilization.Egypt and Mesopotamia were a part of what is called the fertile crescent and this could have not happened without irrigation. We cannot forget that Ancient China developed irrigation. The Romans with their aquaducts were excellent engineers and this allowed irrigation over a wide area.
