Why were diets so much better years ago?
Our diets, eating habits and lifestyles have changed drastically from that of our ancestors 10,000 years ago. In many ways we should try to be more like our ancestors such as: they burned on average 3,000 calories a day compared to our 1,800 calories per day; they had greater than 30 minutes of moderate physical activity per day to provide basic necessities compared to our sedentary lifestyles of desk jobs, computer games and television; they were in a period of either feast or famine compared to our continuous feeding; they ate mostly lean wild game or fish compared to our grain-fattened meats; and lastly they had uncultivated fruits and vegetables compared to our consumption of refined sugars. In these ways we should try to adopt the eating habits of out ancestors of 10,000 years ago instead of the current ideals of eating.
