Why were boat slip lease rates increased at Carolina Beach State Park marina?
It has been a bargain for a number of years. But the cost of progress will mean higher rates for boaters using the newly renovated marina at Carolina Beach State Park. Still, state officials said the price of renting a slip or launching from the state-owned facility on Snows Cut will still be affordable compared to nearby private facilities. Park Superintendent Terri Taylor said the roughly $3.5 million renovation project, which pretty much covered the entire marina and includes a lot of infrastructure work underground, should be wrapped up around the end of September 2010. Now the users – i.e. mariners – are being asked to help shoulder some of the project’s cost, especially as the state parks and N.C. government as a whole struggle as the economy continues to founder.
