Why were APRs enacted in DMU 487?
The DNRE pursued implementation of an APR in DMU 487 due to concerns that the prevalence of bovine tuberculosis infection among deer in northeast Michigan has remained largely unchanged for the past five or more years. Rather than adopt a universal APR, the NRC enacted the same restrictions as those that have been in effect in the Upper Peninsula for the last two seasons. In combination with a new tagging option for antlerless deer (see below), the APR is intended to direct more hunter harvest to antlerless deer and away from younger bucks.
