Why were African people seen as best suited for slavery in South America and the Caribbean?
African peoples lived in tribes, and when one tribe lost a battle, the people were traded or sold to other tribes. It was a lucrative practice for the tribes, as well as removing competitors from the area. Eventually, the people who were sold ended up on slave ships headed for the Americas, because there was a ready market for them there. There is evidence that many native american Indians and indentured white people also became slaves, and that they intermarried over time.
