Why we need animals to be experimented for the benefit of mankind ?
You didn’t volunteer to replace the animals. One of the major coast of fielding new drugs and new products is the requirement for testing. No testing and lots of nasty stuff can end up on the market. In the 1960s Thalidomide was given to thousands of women in Europe and some in America. One FDA scientist worked hard to prevent the drug from being used in the US until further testing was conducted (Yes, animal testing) The drug, while a good sleeping aid, produced horrible birth defects. Babies without arms or legs. Dyes, food additives, cosmetics, drugs, food and manufacturing processes are all required to be tested. Yes, animal testing. Only after animal testing is finished does field trials on humans take place. Literally thousands of drugs are developed and tested before a very few get to animal and human testing. Even then there are cases where the drugs have an unknown side effect and have to be pulled from the market. Computer simulations do much to reduce the need for live anima
It’s because a lot of animals have a MUCH shorter life cycle than we do so you can see more changes in the subsequent generations and they produce more offspring than we do (1 baby human vs a litter of .. whatever animal you’d like to choose) so you can breed more animals in a given birth than with humans. Obviously more importance is placed on human lives, but that is because we are the species with self awareness and we do research in order to extend and improve the lives of our species. Survival of the fittest at its best. On a side note, I’m not pro animal cruelty.
