Why was Zachary Taylor such a bad president?
Sadly enough – – – he wasn’t! Zachary Taylor gets a bad rep because he was viewed as uncouth and uneducated but what really hurt Taylor’s reputation was that he died in office. Actually TAYLOR pisses off a majority of people on YAHOO Answers, and was possibly murdered by poisoning because, though he was a Slave owner, he was coming around to the notion of rejecting slavery. Though Taylor was a Mississippi plantation owner, he resisted the Compromise of 1850, rejected the notion that Slavery ought to be allowed to spread into new territory. Taylor’s mysterious sudden illness and death on JULY 4th 1850 opened the way for Vice President Millard Fillmore, a New Yorker, to sign into law the Compromise of 1850 which allowed Slavery to not only spread but to give the SOUTH ten more years in order to build up their resources & forces for eventual not so Civil War. Bad traits; Taylor was uneducated, a self taught man, he was stubborn, uncompromising, slow & deliberate not prone to rash decision
