Why was trojans made out to be the good guys and Greeks the bad?

You’re reading into it wrong. There were no “good guys” and “bad guys” in the Trojan War. Homer was sympathetic to the Greeks because he was Greek and the Greeks won (the Trojans would actually get the last laugh waaaay on down the line, but that’s a story for another day). That’s it. Some of the Greeks (like Agamemnon) were downright bad, while some Trojans (Hector) were very good men. And if you read The Iliad, Homer actually makes the Trojans appear somewhat sympathetic. Yes, Paris took Helen, but she went with him willingly. So it’s really impossible to say who “started it.” The Iliad talks mainly about the late-to-middle part of the Trojan War. It discusses Achilles’ spat with Agamemnon over Briseis, Hector killing Patrocles and Achilles killing Hector. The title “The Iliad” comes from the word Ilium, another name for Troy. The title literally means “the story of Ilium.” The Odyssey is about Odysseus’ journey home from Troy back to his home island of Ithaca and all the crazy stuff
