Why was this location for Walltown Quarry selected?
There are limited locations within the County and surrounding region that contain viable aggregate reserves. Commercial grade aggregate sources are rare and occur only where nature has provided them. Extraction is limited to those few locations where the necessary geological processes have occurred over millions of years to produce commercial grade aggregate. These resources are even further reduced by practical considerations such as accessibility, economic viability, and proximity to demand. A viable project also takes into consideration items such as neighbors to the site, traffic impacts and environmental impacts that are studied and resolved through the CEQA/EIR process. Granite selected this site after an exploratory drilling program conducted on-site showed a high quality hard rock deposit being located at the surface and the lack of neighbors in the immediate area. This site poses minimal impacts to biological and cultural resources in the area and will reduce traffic impacts d
