Why was the united states interested in annexing hawaii?
No, not for tourism. The United States was first granted access to Hawaii’s Harbor; but then after the Queen was overthrown from her seat as queen the US saw how important of a position that Hawaii has in the Pacific and decided that the US needed a place for a Navy that could defend attacks from Japan, China, etc. Hawaii never wanted to become part of the US the Queen went to DC and rallied for the kingdom of Hawaii to be given back to her people; the Queen even tried to arrange for her niece to marry a Japanese prince so the islands would be a part of Japan. It truly is awful what the people did do the Queen, her husband died on a trip around the world I believe, and then the people’s republic (i think is what is was called) over threw her & locked her inside a room in the palace with only a bed and chair and refused to let her even read a newspaper. I believe that if you are on vacation in Hawaii on Oahu going to Iolani Palace is just as important as going to Pearl Harbor. For a muc
