Why was the United Nations flag flown?
At the beginning of the inaugural ceremony, the United Nations flag and the Pittsburg State University flag were marched to the front of the platform carried by students. Neither flag was posted, instead the students carried both flags off site. In past inaugural ceremonies, PSU international students carried each of their nation’s flags into the ceremony in recognition of the university’s international student population and the role international education and diversity play on the campus. In planning for the most recent ceremony, it was decided that in order to shorten the processional, the international flags would be posted around the flag pole on the west side of the inaugural site and the United Nations flag would be processed in to the ceremony in recognition of the institution’s international student population.
