Why was the spirogyra so called?
The nomenclature of concerned Alga is based on the morphology of the chloroplast found into cell. Actually the chloroplast in this Alga is spiral ribbon like. Further if you will go for the literal meaning of Spirogyra it will convey you : “Spiro” means spiral and “Gyra” means rotation. Through chloroplast morphology it is most easy to identify this Alga. Hence only Spirogyra so called.
