Why was the right to bear arms so important to the framers of the US Constitution?

Basically, it is the right to protect yourself. Personally and corporately. It was important to them to be able to protect themselves and their families from others. It was important to them to be able to protect their country from others. And it was also important to them to be able to protect themselves and their families from their own government, if need be. Since then, one of the very first things Hitler did in order to try to gain control of the populace was to take away their right to bear arms. He said if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear, he would protect them. And yet ultimately, it was him they needed protecting from. The framers of the Constitution were right. We need the right to have and bear arms to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our own country. It keeps us all honest.
