Why was the music festival called Woodstock when it was actually held in Bethel,NY on Yasgurs Farm?
The Woodstock Music and Art Fair was an event held at Max Yasgur’s 600 acre (2.4 km²; 240 ha) dairy farm in the rural town of Bethel, New York from August 15 to August 18, 1969. Bethel (Sullivan County) is 43 miles (69 km) southwest of the town of Woodstock, New York, which is in adjoining Ulster County. Woodstock, New York is famous for lending its name to the Woodstock Festival, actually held at Max Yasgur’s dairy farm 43 miles (76 km) away in Bethel, New York in Sullivan County. ((Maybe the city government of Bethel didn’t want their towns name used in a 3 day music festival, because they, like a lot of people then, might have looked down on the hippie movement.
