Why was the movie “Moneyball” with Aaron Sorkin derailed by the studio?”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Director Steven Soderbergh’s direction of the movie was leading to problems. In an effort to revive the movie, Sony Pictures decided to bring in Aaron Sorkin (West Wing) to try to salvage the movie which was to star Brad Pitt. Pitt’s involvement is probably why so many were surprise when the movie, which is a baseball picture, was derailed. Sorkin will be working from the original Steve Zaillian script, which was based on a book by Michael Lewis about the Oakland A’s and their general manager, Billy Beane.
