Why was the LGA classification system developed?
The Nigerian LGA geodemographic classification system was developed as part of a doctoral research conducted by Dr Adegbola Ojo at the Department of Geography, University of Sheffield. It was also developed as part of an urgent response to the yearning needs of Nigerian academics, students, local and international policy makers and service providers to embark on local level spatial analysis and make more intelligent decisions. It is an opportunity to introduce and develop the concepts and benefits that underpin geodemographics and GIS to Nigeria as part of an agenda to start making relevant, reliable and timely localised spatial information accessible to the public.
