Why was the Level VI Inspection developed?
In 1986, the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) ,Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM) requested that the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), under a cooperative agreement develop an inspection standard for their future shipments of spent nuclear fuel and high level radioactive waste. The goal was to develop a standard which will ensure the protection and safety of people and the environment by setting and enforcing rigid inspection standards and safeguards for the transportation of radioactive materials.
