Why was the Harbor Riverway site chosen?
The Abbott Library Building Committee analyzed and ranked 14 sites using an objective formula to evaluate, weigh and rank the features of each site. Of those sites now available, the Harbor Riverway location ranked highest. The Harbor Riverway site would bring new vitality and year-round activity to the harbor area, which Sunapee’s Village District planning encourages. Several events, in the summer 2007, converged to make this site now possible: the move to Knowlton House by the Lake Sunapee Protective Association; the Old Town Hall charrette that outlines a planning and traffic/parking vision for the Harbor District; and the Harbor Riverway’s endorsement of this site for the new library.
