Why Was The Export Of Gram Suspended By The Government Of Pakistan?
Most recently the government of Pakistan decided to promulgate a suspension on the export of gram in an attempt to achieve the stability of prices in the domestic market. This decision officially came into effect through a notification issued on behalf of the commerce ministry, which amended the Export Order 2006 of gram. On a statistical front, the approximate estimation of gram production amounts to 800000 tons as compared to the consumption of 550000 tons, about 250000 tons of surplus, which was exported by Pakistan. According to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, the decision was taken in the endeavor of safeguarding the interests of the common man as after the suspension of the gram export, its price had been consequently reduced in the wholesale market and in turn, was contributing towards affecting the price of wheat flour too. Moreover he stated that the government would not, under any circumstances, empower any vested interests to manipulate the pricing mechanism in wholesale market
