Why was the ExAC not developed more quickly?
The OAA, AAA and OAQ were determined to develop a high-quality examination that conforms to the rules of statistical test analysis for both the English and French versions. Each Licensing Authority was assisted by a consultant in this field who advised them throughout the development process and the implementation of the ExAC. Quality-control steps must be rigorously respected before the ExAC can be offered to candidates. The three Licensing Authorities also chose to develop the ExAC in collaboration with several architects from each province to determine the learning objectives and prepare the questions. In addition, architects from the three Licensing Authorities will participate in the pilot examination. This approach required greater coordination and allowed us to prepare an examination that reflects the best possible practice of the architectural profession in Canada.
