Why was the effects of hurricane katrina so bad?

0

The effects were so bad because of the embarrassingly poor response by the American government to the disaster. The United States is the most powerful and richest country in the world and yet, a large part of New Orleans still lies in ruins. If the US government had actually fixed the damage done by the hurricane when it first happened instead of leaving the city in ruins and it’s people more or less homeless, then the effects would not be as bad as they are. The extremely poor way the situation was handled hastened the end of the Bush administration. Also, the city itself really just has the rotten luck of being founded and build in a place which is prone o being struck by hurricanes.
