Why was the eating from the Tree of Knowledge forbidden?

I think it’s probably a translation error..as in, it’s the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. And it was forbidden because God knew that it was best if Adam and Eve didn’t eat from it, just as a parent forbids their child to place their hand on a hot stovetop. But nonetheless He put it there and gave Adam and Eve the choice to either obey or disobey. And they disobeyed. They decided we’d rather know good and evil than be with God.
