Why Was The Data Protection Act 1998 Introduced?
The Data Protection Act 1998 was introduced in order to ensure compliance with the European Data Protection Directive, ensuring a standard for data protection throughout the European Union. It was also intended to ensure personal privacy, through giving individuals rights with regards to information and putting responsibilities on organisations that process this information.
