Why was the church of england created?
The big impetus for Henry to split with the Roman Catholic Church was that he wanted to divorce his wife, Catherine of Aragon, who could not give him a male heir. The Pope denied his anulment request; and Henry started the Church of England, getting rid of his old friend Sir Thomas More, to boot. Formerly, Henry was proud to bear the title “Defender of the Faith” and even wrote books extolling the Catholic virtues.
