Why was the caste system devised in HInduism?
If we have a university full of students who are going to be doctors, engineers, teachers and lawyers, separate campuses are set up for medicine students, for engineering students, for law students and for students who want to be professors…this is based on their professions, so that the students pursuing each course are together and they can share common resources and common ideas and they can hence improve themselves…Once they graduate out, all those four professions are interdependent. In the same way, our Hindu caste system is also based on occupation: Brahmanas : the priestly class Kshatriyas : the warrior class Vaishyas : the businessmen Shudras : the skilled labour So both the above classifications are based on the professions…a doctor’s child cannot be called a doctor unless he practises mecdicine…similarly, a Kshatriya’s child cannot be called a kshatriya unless he practices the art of warfare… But the Western education that was propagated in India during the British
