South Australian carers and the agencies that support carers lobbied for the Act because the contribution of carers is often overlooked and taken for granted. The aim of the Carers Recognition Act 2005 and the Charter is to improve the recognition of carers and provide the support needed to ensure they have the same rights, choices and opportunities as other South Australians.
